Cedar Creek Gorge : 5 May 2007
Maggie (see her gallery) and I occassionally hike along the Cedar Creek Gorge trail (inside Cedar Creek County Park, Rostraver Township, Westmoreland County Pennsylvania). Until recently, we'd never gone beyond the second suspension bridge. Wanting to see the 'ancient' apple tree referred to in the trail head historical marker we ventured a little farther one day in early May. We not only found the apple tree but this beautiful spot as well. Turns out it's pretty popular amongst dog owners as a swimming hole too.

The "ancient" apple tree used to help identify the site of a former grist mill along Cedar Creek. Seen here just to the right of the trail, it can be reached by bearing right after crossing the second suspension bridge on the gorge trail. In that case you'll see the tree just to the left of the path.
